Our Story
Punky Junky® was founded in 1999 by a team of hair stylists and product developers in Southern California. They noticed a lack of hair gels that delivered vibrant color and maximum hold without looking or feeling crunchy. Most gels at the time were either clear or came in basic shades like blue, green and red.
We saw an opportunity to disrupt the market by launching the first multi-colored hair gel collection. Our unique formulas combined semi-permanent dyes with powerful holding ingredients to create gels that were as bold and edgy as the people wearing them.
The response was incredible. Young punks and rebellious teens craved our eye-catching shades like pink, purple and orange. The rich, saturated colors and glossy finish became a staple at alternative music shows and events.
